Nude PETA Members Tell the Naked Truth About BearskinsWearing nothing but bear masks and with their nude bodies coated in "blood", dozens of PETA members – symbolising black bears slaughtered in Canada for The Queen's Guards' caps – held a "die-in" near St. Paul's Cathedral. They were calling on the Ministry of Defence (MoD) to stop the needless killing of bears for ceremonial headwear. Four PETA activists who were without masks held signs that read, "MoD: Go Fur-Free". Bears are cruelly killed for their hides; they are either shot during hunts or ensnared, possibly for days, in painful traps. During hunts, as many as one bear in seven is not killed immediately after being shot, and some escape wounded, possibly dying later from blood loss or starvation. In some Canadian provinces, there are no restrictions on the shooting of mothers who have nursing cubs, leading to the slaughter of entire families during hunts. Help Stop the SlaughterThese compassionate people may have bared all, but you don't have to strip to save bears.
